Is it Possible to Crack IAS without Coaching?
Many aspirants often ask, “is it possible to clear UPSC Civil services without coaching?”
The answer is, “Yes, it’s possible”
But even more important question you have to ask yourself is that whether it’s easy for you or not. Do not just blindly follow what rankers say. Every person has different capabilities. Some are good at grasping subject from videos, some are good at reading, some requires special attention. Even in rankers, many have taken coaching and many have not taken coaching. So, there is no one solution that fits all, it depends on each individual. No one knows you better than yourself. So, make your own decision.
To make the right decision keep the following points in mind
1. Initial steps to preparation
Do you have enough time to understand the pattern of UPSC CSE, make a strategy, understand the entire syllabus, where to start the preparation from, what books to follow, which is useful content which is not, etc.? These initial steps are usually time-consuming. Considering the vastness of the UPSC syllabus you need to spend more time in preparation than on making strategies. Coaching institutes can help you save your time here. If you feel it’s easy then you can start your preparation without coaching.
2. Content for preparation
Don’t join coaching institutes just for content or classes. In this google era, there is no dearth of content. All required content for your UPSC preparation will be there on the Internet. There are numerous YouTube videos, blogs, ebooks, articles for every subject. You don’t need coaching centers to provide content. But you will be confused about which one to follow and what to read, as there is countless content available on the internet. That is where coaching centers come – Good coaching institutes personally mentor students, tell them what is useful and what is not useful (content), teach them how to make notes, and guide them on how to analyze the content.
3. Assessment
For any exam preparation assessment is very important, as it determines whether or not your preparation is going in the right direction. Preparation without assessment has no meaning. In UPSC, assessment is not just writing mock tests and improving your score, it is getting evaluated by your mentor too. Because mentor can guide you on ‘where should you focus more’, ‘how should you structure your answers’, ‘what can be ignored during preparation’ etc.
Any aspirant who can manage these points on his own can crack IAS without coaching. No need to spend money and time in coaching.
If these points are not manageable on your own, then no need to feel embarrassed, join a good coaching institute.
The ultimate goal is to crack UPSC, whether you take or don’t take coaching it doesn’t determine your score in UPSC. Look what is easy for you, don’t look what is popular.
