APPSC Group 1 Pattern

The APPSC Group 1 Services Exam follows a specific pattern, which can be summarized as follows:

Two Stages: The examination process consists of two main stages – the Preliminary (Prelims) and the Main (Mains) stages. It’s important to note that, as of June 2021, interviews have been eliminated for all state service examinations, including APPSC Group 1.

Preliminary Stage (Prelims): The Prelims is essentially a Screening Test that includes two papers, with a total score of 240 marks. It’s worth mentioning that there is a negative marking system in place for the Prelims, so candidates should answer carefully.

Advancing to the Main Stage: Only those candidates who successfully clear the Prelims move on to the Main stage of the examination.

Main Stage (Mains): The Mains, unlike the Prelims, is a written-descriptive type of examination and comprises a total of 7 theory papers. Among these papers, there are two that are considered qualifying papers, namely, Telugu and English.

This exam pattern provides a clear framework for candidates aspiring to succeed in the APPSC Group 1 Services Exam, allowing them to understand the various stages and components of the examination process.

The final merit list for the APPSC Group 1 Services Exam is determined as follows:

Candidates’ Marks in Mains: The primary component in calculating the final merit list is the marks obtained by candidates in the Mains stage. This part of the examination carries a total of 750 marks, which are derived from the scores in 5 papers, each worth 150 marks.

Interview (No Longer Applicable): Historically, the interview stage was a part of the final evaluation process, accounting for 75 marks. However, it’s important to note that for all upcoming recruitments, including APPSC Group 1, the interview stage has been eliminated. The APPSC Group 1 exam conducted in 2019 marked the final instance of an interview being part of the evaluation process.

As of this change, the total marks used to determine the final merit list stand at 825, which is the sum of the Mains marks (750) and the now-removed interview marks (75). Please be aware that this total marks tally may be subject to adjustments in future recruitment processes, reflecting the removal of the interview stage from the evaluation process.
